A-FAN co-sponsored an agricultural awareness event on the University of Nebraska-Lincoln City Campus called the Husker Food Connection. It was held April 10, 2012. The purpose of the event was to educate college students about where their food comes from and the importance of agriculture in Nebraska. The event was entirely student driven. Over 80 volunteers from 15 different East Campus student organizations volunteered at the Husker Food Connection promoting agriculture to fellow students. During the event, 1,000 lunches consisting of beef, pork, and turkey sandwiches, deviled eggs, chips, pop, and ice cream were served. The first 500 students received a Husker Food Connection t-shirt. Other activities included riding a mechanical bull, meeting a live calf and piglets, milking a cow, learning to rope, touring the mobile beef lab, competing in a hay bale stacking contest, enterning an iPad drawing, and interacting with students who are passionate about agriculture. The event was a great success and even made national news!
